Preliminary Task Evaluation

You will be assess on your ability to demonstrate continuity in filming.
IN your evaluation comment on: your choice of setting situation, relationship between the characters and dialogue.
Shots that should be included: Match action, shot/revers shot, the 180 degree rule
What shots did you use?
How effective were they?
Were the cuts clear and seamless?

Here I was to demonstrate my ability of continuity in filming. I created a short clip of a scene where somone walks through the door and then walks across the room and then had a shot conversation. For this we decided to go to the main hall of the school as there was a door that one of us could walk though and then had a long walk way to track one of us walking across the room, this gave us enough space to be able to do what we wanted to do. The relationship between the two characters the audience doesnt really know, but the impression they should get is that the one already sitting down (Aaron) is the boss.

We used a series of shots to capture our clip, our first was a mid shot of myself coming through the door. The camera was stood still and did not follow me at any time. Then there was a tracking mid shot of me walking across the room. This effect gives the audience the impression that the actos is on a journey somewhere. There is then an over the shoulder shot from Aarons point of view of myself walking towards the chair and then sitting down. We then used a shot reverse shot as we exchange lines and Aaron says that i'm late, I apologise and then he tells me that there is some work for me,which needs to be done.

While we were speaking we made sure that the dialogue we were saying made sense and that it was also clearly spoken, so that the audience can hear what we are saying.
When we put all the shots we made it so that the shots were cleanly put together so that there is no pause between shots, which doesn't make a very good scene because the audience wouldnt really want to keep seeing pauses between the two shots.

Through out we had a few problems occur while filming and editing the clips. As it was a first time on Adobe Premiere we did not really know anything about it and what we could use on it to make our clip better. The first thing that I will look into doing next time is to reduce the camera shake during the scene. However I could reduce this while recording by using a tripod when doing still scenes. Then when it came to noise reduction we were in the hall and the noise travels very far because of its acoustics so maybe next time we should go where there is noboy else and then there would not be as much noise in the background of our clip.
The last thing that we could improve on next time is to make sure that what we have is what we want in the clip, what i mean by this is that at the end the camera had not stopped recording and so we had a pointless piece at the end where Aaron gets up and tells the person behind the camera to stop recording.

Lastly something that we did not do was the 180 degree rule which is  a basic guideline regarding the on-screen spatial relationship between a character and another character or object within a scene. An imaginary line called the axis connects the characters and by keeping the camera on one side of this axis for every shot in the scene. The part of the clip that we would of used this in would of been after the shot reverse shot. We could then talk a little longer so that we can add this shot type in.
Something else that we could add when we took the clip into editing was to add titles at the begining of the opening, also we could of addded a shot burst of music at the begining as well with the title, like a lot of films have at the begining.
